Aspect Ratio & Scaler

Set source and destination resolution. Choose fit, fill, or stretch and see scaled size, crop, letterboxing, and a live preview.

Use at your own risk. Scaling math is geometric only. Actual switcher/scaler behavior (sharpness, overscan, pixel aspect) varies by device. Verify on the processor or switcher before the show.

Sources

  • Fit scale = min(dst_w/src_w, dst_h/src_h). Fill scale = max(dst_w/src_w, dst_h/src_h).
  • Letterbox/pillarbox = unused destination pixels. Crop = source pixels outside the destination frame after fill.

What this scaler helper does

It shows how a source raster lands on a destination raster in fit, fill, or stretch modes — useful for LED walls, IMAG, and odd aspect canvases.

Worked example

1920×1080 into 3840×1080: fit letterboxes left/right; fill crops top/bottom of the source; stretch fills with a flattened image.

FAQ

What is the difference between fit and fill?

Fit (contain) shows the entire source and may letterbox. Fill (cover) fills the destination and crops the source.

Does stretch preserve aspect ratio?

No. Stretch maps source edges to destination edges and can distort the image.
