LED Wall Planner

Pick a common 500×500 or 500×1000 cabinet (or custom), set columns and rows, and get total resolution, size, viewing distance, weight, power draw, and 1G processor port loading.

Use at your own risk. Panel weight, wattage, and pixel pitch are typical rental-class figures and vary by manufacturer, brightness mode, and accessories. Port capacity (~650k pixels per 1G) is a common planning default and is editable — always confirm against your processor and panel datasheets. This is a planning aid only. Always verify before deploying to a show.

Viewing distances use a common pitch×1 m (min) / pitch×2.5 m (optimal) rule of thumb — confirm for your content and audience.

Sources

  • Pixel count per cabinet ≈ panel_mm ÷ pitch_mm (rounded). Total resolution = cols×panel_px × rows×panel_px.
  • Viewing distance guidance: many rental guides use ~1× pitch (mm) in meters as a practical minimum and ~2–3× as a comfortable content distance. Separate from 20/20 acuity (≈3.4× pitch in meters).
  • Processor port loading: ~650k pixels per 1G copper output is a widely used planning default; confirm with your LED processor documentation.
  • Weight and wattage presets are typical nameplate-class figures for indoor rental cabinets — check the datasheet.

What this LED wall planner does

It turns panel size, pitch, and a grid of columns×rows into the numbers you need for a show: total resolution, physical size, approximate viewing distance, weight, power, and how many 1G processor ports you will load.

Formula

panel_px = panel_mm ÷ pitch_mm; wall_px = cols×panel_px_w × rows×panel_px_h; ports ≈ ⌈total_pixels ÷ px_per_port⌉.

Worked example

Eight columns × four rows of 500×500 mm at 2.6 mm pitch → 192×192 px per panel → 1536×768 wall, 32 panels, ~1.18 Mpx → two 1G ports at a 650k budget.

Tips

  • Leave headroom on ports for sparares and remapping.
  • Power: plan on max watts for feeder sizing; typical for average draw.

FAQ

How many pixels fit on one 1G LED processor port?

A common planning figure is about 650,000 pixels per 1G output. Exact capacity depends on the processor, bit depth, and refresh — edit the field and verify the datasheet.

What viewing distance should I use for LED?

A practical rental rule of thumb is about 1× the pitch in millimeters as meters for a minimum (2.6 mm → ~2.6 m), and roughly 2–3× for comfortable content viewing. Confirm for your content and audience.

Are the weight and wattage numbers exact?

No. Presets are typical indoor rental-class figures. Always use the manufacturer nameplate for rigging and electrical planning.
