Room Capacity & Seating Planner
Estimate event seating from room area, seating style, stage and AV reservations, and aisle allowance.
Planning aid only. Not a code-compliant egress or fire-capacity calculation. Accessible routes, doors, obstructions and venue rules can reduce the result. Verify equipment specifications and on-site conditions before the show.

How to use this tool
Choose a seating style, then adjust the area allowance for the actual furniture. Defaults are conservative event-planning assumptions, not legal occupant-load factors: theater 10, classroom 18, banquet 15, cabaret 20, reception 8 ft²/person.
Usable seating area = (room area − stage area − AV area) × (1 − additional aisle reserve). Capacity = floor(usable area / allowance per person). The allowance includes local furniture spacing; the aisle reserve is an additional deduction for main circulation. Banquet and cabaret counts are rounded down to full tables.
This is an area budget, not a seat-by-seat floor plan. It does not locate doors, table footprints or exit routes.
FAQ
Is this the legal room capacity?
No. The venue, fire authority, exit capacity, accessible routes and local code determine permitted occupancy. Use the lower approved limit.
Why round down to full tables?
A partially filled table still occupies floor space. Banquet and cabaret results report complete tables and their guest count.
Can stage and AV reservations overlap?
The calculation assumes separate, non-overlapping rectangular reservations contained inside the room. Verify your actual plan.
